Overfill protection and level measurement for LPG storage tanks

The CL system prevents overfill of large tanks filled by trains or boat tankers with automatic shutoff system. It complies with different standards like DINIEC61508 (VdTÜV/ PED), SIL2 or SIL3 and combines a safety shut-off, pre-alarm and content measurement in one rack. The shut-off lenght of the sensor can vary from 50cm to 3m while its overall lenght can be up to 8m.
Key advantages
  • Connect multiple tanks simultaneously
  • Overfill Protection with two switching levels
  • No adjustment necessary
  • Completely independently working Overfill Protection and level meter integrated in one sensor
  • Sensor made of stainless steel
  • Modular, flexible and simple installation (eurocard modules)
  • Level read out in volume percentage and three adjustable switching levels
  • Complies with all relevant European (for instance, ATEX, PED, CE, TÜV)

The system consists of a multiple capacitive sensor, measuring converter and processing electronics with outputs for various purposes.

Depending on the requirements and risks, two configurations are available:

  • One with a switching amplifier CL-SLA1 (AK4) or CL-SLC1 (AK5)
  • For very large tanks &/or tanks with an increased risk, the CL-SLC1 is more suitable
  • For other applications, the CL-SLA1 is sufficient/adequate

Switch-off point in %

Overfill protection: Cut-off length D=A+B+wall thickness (+possible intermediate flange)

Level sensor: Probe length= A+0.94C (+possible intermediate flange)

Remark
  • The probe is dimensioned according to the safety-related switch-off point; the operational switch-off point is always approx. 2% lower.
  • The opening of the dipstick valve must be directly at the safety-related switch-off point so that it can be tested.
  • The level probe has a safety distance of 0.06C from the bottom of the tank.
  • Other container types on request.
